Normal Source Plasma
Contains proteins, clotting factors and antibodies needed for plasma protein therapies.
Most healthy individuals qualify for this program if they meet the basic plasma donation qualifications to donate plasma.
Plasma proteins are used to treat burns, bleeding disorders, shock, trauma, major surgery, cardio pulmonary issues, organ transplants, pediatric HIV, auto-immune and genetic diseases.
Rho(D) Immune Globulin
To help save the lives of babies whose blood types are incompatible with their mothers (Hemolytic Disease of the Newborn).
As an individual whose blood is Rho(D)negative, your body’s immune system has the ability to produce anti-bodies to the Rho(D)antigen. These antibodies (Anti-D) are valuable because they are the source of the raw material used to manufacture Rho(D)Immune Globulin. This drug is used to immunize Rho (D) negative women during pregnancy and after child birth to prevent their bodies from producing these antibodies. Although the antibodies are not dangerous to your body or the bodies of these pregnant women, they are life-threatening to their unborn children whose blood is Rho (D)positive. The antibodies can attack the baby’s red blood cells and cause anemia, heart failure, brain damage, and in some cases, death.
The good news is that Rho (D) Immune Globulin prevents Rh negative women from being sensitized during pregnancy. The bad news is that the raw material has now become so scarce, the world wide supply of the drug is now at dangerously low levels. If the Anti-D plasma supply continues to decline, the time may come when the required shots may not be available.
To prevent this, another way has been developed to immunize Rho (D) negative individuals and induce their bodies to produce the needed antibodies. The immunization process consists of injecting Rho (D) negative individuals, such as yourself, with small amounts of Rho (D) positive red blood cells. Overtime, repeated injections with these red blood cells will induce your body to produce the antibodies. When the antibodies reach an acceptable level, your plasma can be collected for the production of Rho (D) Immune Globulin. Learn More
Hepatitis B Immune Globulin
To prevent hepatitis B after exposure.
Hepatitis B causes inflammation and infection of the liver. Thousands of cases of hepatitis B are reported each year.
In our hepatitis B program, you will receive immunizations to increase your level of antibodies to this virus. If your plasma meets both FDA and Biotest Pharmaceutical’s program requirements, it is manufactured into Hepatitis B Immune Globulin. Learn More
Rabies Immune Globulin
To prevent rabies after exposure.
Rabies, although relatively rare is a terrifying disease and a serious public health concern. Because of successful Rabies Vaccination Programs, domestic animals are usually well protected from contracting rabies and therefore from passing it on to humans. However, the danger still exists.
In our Rabies Program, you will receive immunizations to increase your level of antibodies to this virus. Rabies Immune Globulin is manufactured from the plasma that is collected and provided as a “post –exposure” treatment after a bite from a suspected rabid animal. In addition, it is made available to people considered to be at a high risk for exposure, such as veterinarians and animal control workers.
Tetanus Immune Globulin
To prevent tetanus after exposure.
Tetanus (commonly known as Lockjaw) is a serious bacterial disease of the central nervous system, affecting muscles and nerves. It is characterized by muscle stiffness that usually involves the jaw and neck that then progresses to involve other parts of the body.
In our Tetanus Program, you will receive immunizations to increase your level of antibodies. Tetanus immune globulin is used to prevent tetanus infection, by giving your body the antibodies it needs to protect it against tetanus infection.
